Additional Comments
The year was 1910...and the beginning
of the 20th century brought a new era of prosperity
to Philadelphia.
Businesses flourished, the downtown
district became the center of attention and mass
transit made the city more accessible than ever.
The popular new automobile was becoming an affordable
luxury and people flocked to the dealerships located
along Broad Street to see the exciting new models.
The automobile dealerships were
lavish temples, and the showroom of the Packard
Motor Car Company was a shining example. Acclaimed
architect, Albert Kahn, was transported from Detroit
to design a building that would be unrivaled in
Philadelphia. From the limestone and terra cotta
trim to the oversized windows, from the majestic
two-story lobby to its intricate rich details,
the Packard building was destined to become the
model of excellence.
The building has served many purposes since its
origin, but none as exciting as when Historic
Landmarks for Living restored this relic in 1985
and transformed it into a luxury apartment highrise.
While the irreplaceable details of the past have
been carefully preserved, great care has been
taken to enhance them with contemporary amenities
and conveniences to create a quality of life that
is still the model of excellence.
Today, the Packard Motor Car Building
stands proud, rising above a dramatic rebirth
of Philadelphia's downtown business and entertainment
districts... and our residents are right in the
center of all that is great about city living!
