New Castle, population 17,539 (2000 U.S. Census)
is an historic small town in Delaware. It was founded
in 1651 by Peter Stuyvesant and served as New Netherland's
capital. New Castle also served as the capital
of colonial Delaware until 1776. Only 20% of the
population of New Castle rents and rents are slightly
lower than the Delaware State average. Although
there are some new developments, renting housing
developments tend to be older-the median year of
construction is 1939. New Castle is approximately
15 minute from Newark and Wilmington, DE and 45
minutes south of downtown Philadelphia.
