Pottstown

Pottstown is one of many Philadelphia suburbs that grew with the rise of the iron and steel industry. Named after the Potts family, who were some of the most respected ironworkers of the era, the borough was incorporated in 1815. Despite the shrinkage of the industry, the area has managed to remain desirable. Pottstown is a fantastic combination of easy suburban life with cosmopolitan touches. The Pottstown School District is excellent, and a number of private schools are also in the area. One of the city’s proudest achievements is its local paper, the Pottstown Mercury, which is the smallest paper in the country to have won two Pulitzer Prizes for journalism.
